Which Bobcat Fault Codes Stop Work, Sourced for Your Machine
Bobcat fault codes read differently by machine generation. U1201-00 is a remote engine disable, not a failure. Here’s how to tell what stops work.

Table of Contents
If your Bobcat throws a code, check whether Bobcat’s own code list describes it as “in shutdown.” That wording, not the code number, tells you whether to stop.
| Flag | What it means | Do this now |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ OEM Shutdown | Bobcat’s list describes the condition as “in shutdown” | Lower the attachment, stop on level ground, don’t restart |
| โ ๏ธ Stop & Assess | Our editorial flag for hydraulic, lift, drive, interlock, and aftertreatment faults | Park it; get it diagnosed before work |
| ๐ง Service Soon | Warning-level condition that will worsen | Finish in a safe position, book service |
| โน๏ธ Info | A condition you can resolve, such as low fuel | Fix the condition; the code clears |
Find your code in the shutdown code table.
โน๏ธ Safety Note: Some Bobcat faults stop the engine seconds after the warning or affect lift arm control. Never work under raised arms unless the OEM lift arm support device is installed, and never feel for hydraulic leaks by hand, because pressurized fluid can penetrate skin. DPF regeneration heats exhaust parts enough to burn skin and ignite debris. Never bypass the seat bar or interlocks to clear a code; have a qualified technician diagnose the machine per the O&M manual for your serial number.
Machine down, buying used, or chasing a regen code?
If your loader or CTL just threw a code on the job
Check the shutdown table, then the hydraulic, lift and interlock codes.
If you run a mini excavator
Confirm your format in how to read a Bobcat code; excavators have their own section in Bobcat’s list.
If a Tier 4 machine is asking for a regen
Go to DPF and engine codes.
If you’re checking a used or rented machine
Read the engine disabled codes before you pay or sign.
How to read a Bobcat code: which list your machine uses
Bobcat uses several code formats; read yours against your machine’s list.
| Format | Example | Where you’ll see it | Where to look it up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two numeric pairs | 03-09 | Older loaders with an hourmeter/code display | O&M manual for your serial range |
| Letter + four digits | M0909, W3223 | M-Series and later machines | Bobcat Diagnostic Service Codes, your product’s section |
| E + number + suffix | E003701-15 | Tier 4 engine controller | Engine section, matched to your engine |
| U + number + suffix | U1201-00 | Machine IQ remote disable | Bobcat Machine IQ documentation |
Sources: Bobcat Diagnostic Service Codes, Rev. 10-20; Bobcat loader code list dated 02/21/2018; Bobcat Machine IQ support. Verified Sept. 16, 2026.

Older numeric codes (00-00 format)
On older loaders, the service code shows as two number pairs, and multiple active codes scroll on the hourmeter/code display (Bobcat O&M manual, S/N 526811001 and above, 2005). Definitions are in the O&M manual for your serial range.
Gaps exist: one owner reported code 34-02 missing from his 2003 T190 manuals. An unlisted code means a dealer read, not a guess.
Letter-prefix codes on newer loaders (M, H, D, W and others)
The letter matches the controller that set the code. A 2011 T770 manual excerpt shows this with its “controller programmed” codes: D7597 (drive), H4497 (auxiliary), M7497 (main), and W3297 (ACS).
Don’t decode an unlisted code from its digit pattern. Only the published description counts.
Engine ECU codes (E-prefix)
Tier 4 engine codes carry an E prefix, a six-digit number, and a suffix, such as E003701-15. Bobcat’s 2018 loader list pairs many with a P-code, like P3006.
Bobcat’s 10-20 list splits engine codes by engine: V1 (Delphi ECU), V2 (Bosch ECU), and D34 (DCU). Confirm your engine first.
Why excavator and loader codes aren’t interchangeable
Bobcat’s list has separate sections for M-Series loaders (S450โS850, T450โT870), R-Series loaders (S60sโS70s, T60sโT70s), M-Series excavators (E26โE85), E145/E165 excavators, and Toolcat, telehandler, and compact wheel loader models. Read the definition in your machine’s section. Every code by family is in the full Bobcat skid steer and track loader code list and the Bobcat mini excavator service codes.
Bobcat shutdown codes by machine family
These are the codes Bobcat’s lists describe as “in shutdown.”

Loaders and track loaders (M-Series, R-Series)
| Code | Bobcat’s description | Applies to | Flag | Next move |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M0415 | Engine oil pressure in shutdown | Loaders, gateway controller | ๐ OEM Shutdown | Don’t restart; technician checks oil system |
| M0515 | Hydraulic charge pressure in shutdown | Loaders, gateway controller | ๐ OEM Shutdown | Lower arms if possible; technician |
| M0615 | Engine speed in shutdown | Loaders, gateway controller | ๐ OEM Shutdown | Don’t restart; dealer scan tool |
| M0715 | Hydraulic oil temperature in shutdown | Loaders, gateway controller | ๐ OEM Shutdown | Cool down, arms lowered; technician |
| M0815 | Engine coolant temperature in shutdown | Loaders, gateway controller | ๐ OEM Shutdown | Don’t open a hot radiator; technician |
Source: Bobcat loader code list, Gateway section, dated 02/21/2018; wording matches 2013 and 2014 reproductions. Verified Sept. 16, 2026.
๐ Why It Fails: Bobcat panels warn before cutting the engine. The 2005 O&M manual (S/N 526811001 and above) lists extremely low oil pressure with shutdown 10 seconds later. That protects the engine but can stop the machine with a raised load, on a slope, or on a ramp.
Compact excavators
Third-party lists give Bobcat excavators the same M0415โM0815 shutdown codes, but we haven’t confirmed that against Bobcat’s excavator section.
| Code | Bobcat’s description | Applies to | Flag | Next move |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M0415โM0815 | E26โE85 | ๐ until confirmed | Dealer scan tool |
Engine and aftertreatment shutdown codes
| Code | Bobcat’s description | Applies to | Flag | Next move |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E003701-00 (P3008) | Particulate matter in shutdown | Loaders, iT4 engine controller | ๐ OEM Shutdown | Dealer service regen |
| E523601-00 (P3023) | Exhaust gas temperature in shutdown | Loaders, iT4 engine controller | ๐ OEM Shutdown | Keep clear of hot exhaust; dealer |

What “SHTDN” on the panel means
Owners report a SHTDN message (one on an S510), but we found no Bobcat definition. Treat it as a shutdown and have it read before restarting.
โ Do This: Photograph the display, then give the code, model, and serial number to a certified heavy equipment technician. Ask them to confirm the definition for your serial range and show you the live sensor reading.
Hydraulic, lift and interlock codes that aren’t safe to ignore
These don’t stop the engine, but they affect lift, drive, or interlocks.
Charge pressure and hydraulic temperature warnings
| Code | Bobcat’s description | Applies to | Flag | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M0509 | Hydraulic charge pressure low | Loaders, gateway controller | โ ๏ธ Stop & Assess | Technician |
| M0514 | Hydraulic charge pressure extremely low | Loaders, gateway controller | โ ๏ธ Stop & Assess | Technician |
| M0710 | Hydraulic oil temperature high | Loaders, gateway controller | ๐ง Service Soon | Technician |
| M0711 | Hydraulic oil temperature extremely high | Loaders, gateway controller | โ ๏ธ Stop & Assess | Technician |
Source: Bobcat loader code list, Gateway section, dated 02/21/2018; M0514 also in a 2011 T770 excerpt. Verified Sept. 16, 2026.
Charge pressure is the low-pressure supply that keeps the hydrostatic drive and controls fed. When it drops, drive and hydraulic response become unreliable. See common causes of low hydraulic charge pressure and why hydraulic oil overheats on compact loaders.
Lift arm and tilt solenoid faults
These show as open circuit or short faults on a solenoid output. Codes vary by machine, so use Bobcat’s list for your product.
โ ๏ธ Hazard: A lift or tilt circuit fault can mean the arms don’t hold or respond as commanded. Nobody goes under raised arms to trace wiring; lower them, or have a technician install the OEM lift arm support device per the O&M manual. This is certified heavy equipment technician work.
๐ The Rule: OSHA 29 CFR 1926.600(a)(3)(i) requires raised machinery to be blocked or cribbed before anyone works under it. End-loader buckets must be fully lowered or blocked during repair, with controls neutral, motor stopped, and brakes set. Source: OSHA 1926.600, verified Sept. 16, 2026; confirm the current text before relying on it.
BICS and seat bar interlock faults
The Bobcat Interlock Control System (BICS) uses the seat bar and operator inputs to allow or block lift, tilt, and traction. Bobcat’s loader list includes M2502, M2503, and M2507 (traction lock relay and output errors) and M2805โM2807 (auxiliary interlock output faults).
A lockout from these codes is the safety system working. A technician repairs the sensor or wiring; nobody jumpers it. More on why Bobcat interlock faults lock out the lift arms.
Low system voltage codes
| Code | Bobcat’s description | Applies to | Flag | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M0309 | Battery voltage low | Loaders, gateway controller | ๐ง Service Soon | Owner check, then technician |
| M0314 | Battery voltage extremely low | Loaders, gateway controller | โ ๏ธ Stop & Assess | Technician |
Source: Bobcat loader code list, Gateway section, dated 02/21/2018 (2011 T770 excerpt words M0309 “System voltage too low”). Verified Sept. 16, 2026.
Low voltage can trigger faults elsewhere, and batteries vent explosive hydrogen. See low system voltage codes and battery checks.
โ Do This: For any stop-and-assess code here, ask a certified heavy equipment technician for a charge pressure test and a circuit test on the flagged output with a Bobcat-capable tool, with results in writing.
Bobcat DPF and engine codes: regen, derate and shutdown
On Tier 4 machines, diesel particulate filter (DPF) codes escalate in steps, and the step tells you who handles it.
| Code | Bobcat’s description | Applies to | Flag | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| E003701-15 (P3006) | Particulate matter high (parked regen required) | Loaders, iT4 engine controller | ๐ง Service Soon | Operator, per O&M procedure |
| E003701-16 (P3007) | Particulate matter extremely high (service regen required) | Loaders, iT4 engine controller | โ ๏ธ Stop & Assess | Dealer |
| E003701-00 (P3008) | Particulate matter in shutdown | Loaders, iT4 engine controller | ๐ OEM Shutdown | Dealer |
| E523590-16 (P3013) | Parked regeneration time out | Loaders, iT4 engine controller | โ ๏ธ Stop & Assess | Dealer |
Source: Bobcat loader code list, iT4 Engine Controller section, dated 02/21/2018; E003701 codes also in a 09.2017 compilation. Verified Sept. 16, 2026.
Parked regen required vs. service regen required
A parked regeneration is an operator-started cleaning cycle run stationary, per your O&M manual; a service regeneration is the dealer’s step. Park away from dry debris, because the exhaust runs hot. More on what a parked regeneration does and when it’s required.
Why the machine derates
๐ Why It Fails: The DPF traps soot. As soot builds, the controller escalates from parked regen to service regen to shutdown, limiting performance to protect the filter and engine. Restarting a machine in shutdown doesn’t clean the filter.
Which engine your Bobcat uses changes the code list
Bobcat lists engine codes separately for V1 (Delphi), V2 (Bosch), and D34 (DCU) engines. Confirm yours from the O&M manual or dealer, then use Bobcat engine and DPF codes by engine type.
๐ The Rule: Clean Air Act Section 203(a)(3) prohibits removing or rendering inoperative emissions controls. EPA applies the same prohibitions to nonroad engines and equipment (40 CFR 1068.101(b)) for the equipment’s entire life. Sources: EPA Tampering Policy (2020) and EPA tampering and defeat devices alert, verified Sept. 16, 2026.
News reports say the Justice Department dropped criminal defeat-device cases in January 2026. The prohibition itself wasn’t repealed, and civil and state enforcement are separate.
Regulations and enforcement change; confirm current EPA and state air-agency requirements before you act.
“Engine disabled” codes: U1201-00 and M8899 explained
These codes mean the engine was disabled remotely, not that something broke.
๐ Verified Spec: Per Bobcat’s Machine IQ support page, U1201-00 or M8899 “Engine Disabled” means Machine IQ remotely disabled the engine. It runs normally briefly, then derates, and can’t be restarted once shut off. Applies to Machine IQ models that support Remote Engine Disable/Enable. Source: Bobcat Machine IQ support, verified Sept. 16, 2026.
What happens after the code appears
Before the derate, move the machine somewhere safe and lower the attachment, because once off it stays off. Then contact the machine owner or Bobcat dealer.
If you’re renting or just bought the machine
On a rental, call the rental company. On a purchase, have the dealer confirm Machine IQ status and account ownership before you pay; see what to check before buying a used Bobcat.
๐งฎ Run the Numbers: The Used Equipment Hour-Value Estimator takes model, model year, and hours. Settle telematics status before trusting any value.
How to check active codes on your Bobcat panel
Read codes before anyone picks up a wrench.
โ ๏ธ Hazard: Check codes with the attachment fully lowered, controls in neutral, and the parking brake set. A machine with an active hydraulic or interlock fault may not respond normally; if the arms can’t be lowered, keep everyone clear and call a certified heavy equipment technician.
Standard and deluxe panels
On loaders with the hourmeter/code display, multiple active codes scroll in turn (Bobcat O&M manual, S/N 526811001 and above). Write down every code in the scroll. Button sequences differ by generation, so follow the Instrument Panel section of your O&M manual.
Touchscreen displays
Menu paths vary by model and software version; use the Instrument Panel and System Setup sections of your O&M manual.
Do Bobcats store old codes?
Documented owner reports indicate some Bobcats show only active codes, and Machine IQ machines report fault codes to owners and dealers remotely. For history, ask the dealer for a diagnostic read.
Codes clear once the cause is fixed. Bobcat’s troubleshooting guidance for M0909 says it clears when fuel is above one-quarter tank.
Fix it yourself, call the dealer, or park it?
Codes an owner can usually resolve
| Code | Bobcat’s description | Applies to | Owner action |
|---|---|---|---|
| M0909 | Fuel level low | Loaders, telehandlers | Refuel above one-quarter tank |
| M0117 | Air filter plugged | Loaders, gateway controller | Replace filter per O&M service schedule |
Sources: Bobcat BATS v2.4 troubleshooting (M0909); Bobcat loader code list dated 02/21/2018 (M0117). Verified Sept. 16, 2026.
Anything on hydraulic, lift, drive, interlock, or aftertreatment systems goes to a technician, even if the fix proves simple.
When you need a dealer scan tool
You need a dealer or Bobcat-capable diagnostic tool for three kinds of code:
- “Controller programmed” codes, such as M7497 or D7597.
- Calibration codes, such as W3223, listed as “ACS calibration required” in the 2011 T770 excerpt.
- Out-of-range and circuit faults, where the sensor, wiring, or component could be at fault.
What downtime is costing you
Diagnostic cost depends on call-out charges, diagnostic labor, and parts, and it varies by dealer and region, so get a written quote.
๐งฎ Run the Numbers: Enter hourly owning and operating cost, expected hours down, and the repair quote in the Equipment Cost-Per-Hour Calculator to compare a mobile technician against waiting for a dealer slot.
Bobcat fault code questions, answered
1. How do I clear a Bobcat fault code?
Fix the cause; Bobcat codes clear on their own, as M0909 does once fuel is above one-quarter tank.
2. What is Bobcat code M0909?
Bobcat code M0909 is fuel level low. Refuel above one-quarter tank and the code should clear.
3. What does SHTDN mean on a Bobcat?
We found no Bobcat definition, so treat SHTDN as a shutdown. Stop safely, record every code, and have a technician read it.
4. Which Bobcat codes mean shutdown?
On loaders, Bobcat lists M0415, M0515, M0615, M0715, and M0815 as “in shutdown.” Don’t restart; call a technician.
5. What does parked regen required mean on a Bobcat?
Code E003701-15 means the DPF needs an operator-started parked regeneration. Follow the procedure in your O&M manual.
6. What does engine disabled mean on a Bobcat?
U1201-00 or M8899 means Machine IQ disabled the engine remotely; it won’t restart once off. Contact the owner or dealer.
7. Do Bobcats store old fault codes?
Owner reports indicate some Bobcats show only active codes; Machine IQ machines report codes remotely. Ask your dealer for a full read.
8. Can I keep running a Bobcat with a warning code?
Not with a shutdown code or a hydraulic, lift, drive, interlock, or aftertreatment code. Park it and have a technician diagnose it.
Your next step when a Bobcat code won’t clear
A code that survives the obvious fix needs a diagnosis, not another restart.
