Exactly What Bobcat Machine IQ Fault Codes Show and Who Sees Them
Machine IQ fault codes land in your inbox only on Health and Security. Here’s what each alert shows, who else sees it, and why U1201-00 isn’t a failure.

What a Bobcat Machine IQ fault alert tells you
Machine IQ fault alerts come with the Health and Security package. Each alert gives a code, a plain description and troubleshooting steps, and arrives by email, in the Owner Portal and in the app. Bobcat sells Health and Security per machine, per year, after a 90-day free trial. Separately, when a machine logs a critical fault code, Bobcat says your servicing dealer’s Machine IQ specialist is notified, reviews it, and contacts you if needed.
If you got an alert
Jump to what’s inside the notification, then to what to do if the machine is on a job right now.
If you expected one and didn’t
Check your package first, then the blind spots section below. No alert does not mean no fault.
ℹ️ Safety Note: A remote alert is a record of a fault the machine logged, not a live inspection of its condition. Some faults derate or restrict the machine, and working through an unresolved hydraulic, drive or lift fault risks losing that function under load. This article is for general understanding; follow your Operation & Maintenance Manual and have a qualified Bobcat technician diagnose critical faults.
Basics vs. Health and Security: which one sends fault alerts

The package on the machine decides whether you get fault alerts at all.
| Package | Cost basis | Fault code alerts to owner | Applies To |
|---|---|---|---|
| Machine IQ Basics | No cost for 2 years from purchase date, then paid subscription | Not included | Factory-connected Bobcat machines; aftermarket-kit machines start Basics when the kit connects |
| Health and Security | 90-day free trial, then paid annual subscription per machine; price quoted by dealer | Yes, with description and troubleshooting steps | Connected Bobcat machines |

What’s free and for how long
Basics covers location, hours, fuel level and maintenance tracking. Fault notifications, geofence and curfew alerts, utilization reports and remote engine disable sit in Health and Security.
Why some dealers still say three years
The free period has changed. Launch coverage from October 2020 described Basics as free for three years, and a 2024 dealer brochure still says three. Bobcat’s current Owner Portal FAQ and a July 2026 dealer page both say two years.
✅ Do This: If your machine was bought under the older terms, give your dealer the serial number and ask which free-period term applies to it. We could not confirm how earlier purchases are handled.
🧮 Run the Numbers: Health and Security’s utilization report splits idle time from working time.
What’s inside a Machine IQ fault notification
A Health and Security alert gives you three things: the fault code, a description, and step-by-step troubleshooting.

Email, portal, and app alerts
Alerts arrive by email, as an in-portal notification with a counter on the portal home page, and as a mobile app alert. Bobcat’s Machine IQ app listing describes viewing critical fault codes from your phone.
What your dealer sees at the same moment
Bobcat says connected machines transmit location, hours and fault codes to the servicing dealer. For a critical code, the dealer’s Machine IQ specialist is notified, judges severity, and reaches out if needed. The alert tells you a code fired; what that code means on your model is a separate lookup. For that, look up the fault code by your machine’s serial number.
Got a critical alert mid-job? What to do first
The first decision is whether the machine keeps working, and the machine may already have made it.
Derate means the machine already decided
Bobcat says certain fault conditions put the machine into a derate until the fault is corrected. A derate is a deliberate power or function limit that protects machine systems. Treat it as the machine telling you to stop and diagnose, not something to work around.
⚠️ Hazard: Continuing to lift, dig or travel with an unresolved critical fault can mean losing hydraulic, drive or lift function with a load raised or on a slope. Park it per the O&M manual and have a certified Bobcat technician diagnose it before it goes back to work.
Calling the dealer: what to have ready
✅ Do This: Call your dealer’s Machine IQ specialist with the serial number, current hour meter reading, the code exactly as shown in the alert and on the in-cab display, and what the machine was doing. Ask: “Is this a stop-work code on my serial number, and can the machine be moved to where you’ll service it?”
Before you call, check which Bobcat fault codes stop work.
Why an alert can arrive late or not at all
A quiet portal is not proof of a healthy machine.
No cell signal on site
Bobcat says the Machine IQ device keeps collecting and storing data when it’s out of cellular range. On a dead-zone job, check the in-cab display rather than waiting on your phone.
Machines without factory telematics
Dealer pages describe factory connectivity on R-Series compact excavators and M2-Series loaders. Machines without factory hardware need a dealer-installed aftermarket kit. Rented machine? Ask the rental house who receives its alerts.
Display code vs. portal code
Bobcat’s app materials describe critical fault codes, so don’t treat the portal as the machine’s complete fault history. If the code format you see doesn’t match what the alert shows, see how Bobcat’s 01-17 and M0117 code formats differ.
Setting up Machine IQ so alerts actually reach you
Alerts only reach you once the machine is claimed and notifications are switched on.
Claim the machine
- Create an account at my.Bobcat.com.
- Use “Claim my machine” and enter the serial number.
- Your servicing dealer completes the assignment, and you get an email when Machine IQ is active.
Turn on email notifications
- Subscribe to fault code notifications so alerts reach your inbox, not just the portal.
U1201-00 and “Machine Disabled”: a portal command, not a failure
This one code comes from the portal itself, not from a mechanical fault.
Why the display shows U1201-00
📋 Verified Spec: After a successful remote engine disable, an up-to-date in-cab display reads “Machine Disabled.” A display that isn’t up to date shows U1201-00. Applies to: connected, compatible Bobcat machines on Health and Security, North America and Europe. Source: Bobcat Owner Portal Machine IQ FAQ, checked September 29, 2026.
Who can re-enable it
A disabled engine that is already off will not start. Re-enabling is done through the Owner Portal or Machine IQ app by the account holder. There is no legitimate workaround at the machine. If nobody on your side sent the command, contact the account holder or your dealer.

Where this leaves you
An alert means a code fired. Whether it stops your day depends on the code and your machine. Look it up by serial number, then check it against the stop-work list above. Before any critical-fault machine goes back to work, ask a certified Bobcat technician one question: is this code a stop-work code on this serial number?
