Before you use any spec table to haul or buy

ℹ️ Safety Note: Operating weight is a base figure. Attachments, counterweight, shoe width and the trailer change what rides on the road, and a machine that shifts or rolls off a trailer can kill. Have a licensed carrier confirm hauled weight, width, height and securement.

What operating weight leaves out

Deere’s 210 P-Tier sheet bases weight on a full fuel tank, an operator and a listed bucket and arm. Your attachments and the trailer are not in it.

Where to confirm before you move

Regulations change; Section 8 gives the federal baseline, verified October 8, 2026.

Start here: haul, buy, rent or decode a used Deere

If you’re hauling a machine this week

Go to the transport section, then confirm with your carrier.

If you’re choosing between tiers

G-Tier or P-Tier compares Deere’s own figures.

If you’re decoding a used machine

Start with the ledger, because one model name can be two machines, then use the crosswalk.

If you’re building a bid or fleet schedule

Use the excavator and dozer and loader tables, and carry the configuration with every weight.

What P-Tier, G-Tier and X-Tier mean on a Deere

John Deere vector comparison showing G-Tier as economical, P-Tier as the mainstream feature level and X-Tier as the most advanced tier
John Deere’s G, P and X labels describe feature levels, not EPA emissions classifications.

Performance tier vs EPA Tier 4: not the same thing

No. P-Tier is a feature level; EPA Final Tier 4 is a nonroad emissions standard, listed separately on Deere’s 210 P-Tier sheet.

📋 Verified Spec: Non-road emission standard, 210 P-Tier (prior generation, 6.8 L PowerTech PVS 6068HT106): EPA Final Tier 4 / EU Stage IV — Deere spec sheet ME210PAU, rev. 25-01, verified October 8, 2026.

The three tier letters and what each adds

On wheel loaders, Deere said P-Tier carries the features of its L-series, and the first G-Tier model was the 644 loader.

Why the old letter series disappeared

Deere said tiering moves away from series letters. The 2024 guide lists 700L, 750L and 850L dozers; the 2025 sheet lists 700, 750 and 850 P-Tier with the same figures.

Compact excavators: 17 P to 60 P

Deere lists canopy and cab weights separately. The 50 P-Tier is 10,560 lb with a canopy, above the 10,000-lb securement line in Section 8; the 35 P-Tier is 7,760 lb. Deere announced a 40 P-Tier on September 24, 2026; no figure appears until Deere publishes a spec sheet.

Midsize and large: 135 P to 870 P

Ranges are Deere’s spread across undercarriage, counterweight and boom options; the 135 P-Tier spans 2,425 lb. The 200 G-Tier is the only G-Tier excavator on the 2025 sheet.

The 2026 generation change on the 210, 230 and 260

Deere launched a new generation of midsize P-Tier excavators on January 21, 2026, starting with the 210, 230 and 260. Equipment World reported the 260 replaces the 250 P-Tier; Deere’s listing still shows the 245 and 250. The 210 kept its name but changed engine, so check the serial range.

Crawler dozers: 450 P to 1050 P and the 850 X

The 850 X-Tier is 400 lb heavier than the 850 P-Tier at both ends of its range. The 950 P-Tier is 65,300–73,700 lb in the 2024 guide and 65,300–75,150 lb in the 2025 sheet.

Wheel loaders: G, P and X on one ladder

The 644 P-Tier starts 1,709 lb above the 644 G-Tier, and the 644 X-Tier starts 325 lb above the P.

Backhoes, ADTs and motor graders: where the numbers live

The 310 G-Tier backhoe lists 13,907 lb and the 310 P-Tier 15,221 lb. Deere’s 2024 and 2025 documents disagree on net power for the 410 P and 460 P articulated dump trucks, so none is published here. The 2025 sheet still lists G-series graders while trade press reports P-Tier graders shipping, so no grader weights appear.

Size-class labels vs actual weight (the metric-ton trap)

🔍 Why It Fails: A short ton is 2,000 lb; a metric ton (tonne) is 2,204.62 lb. Deere labels the 210, 230 and 260 a 20-metric-ton class, but a class label is a nickname, not a weight.

MachinePublished weight, lbAbove 40,000 lb (short tons)Above 44,092 lb (20 metric tons)

260 P-Tier, 202656,550–60,41016,550–20,41012,458–16,318

20 × 2,204.62 = 44,092 lb. Weights from Deere’s listing page, October 8, 2026.

Letter collisions: G-series vs G-Tier

The May 2025 sheet lists a “200 G-Tier” excavator and a “190G W” wheeled excavator. The first is a tier; the second is a generation letter. Some Deere page addresses still end in “210g” for a 210 P-Tier.

How to verify any Deere number yourself

✅ Do This: Get the serial number, then ask your Deere dealer which spec sheet and engine apply. Check the footnote for what operating weight includes.

From spec sheet to trailer: weight, width and securement

Operating weight is not hauled weight

⚠️ Hazard: Operating weight excludes attachments beyond the listed bucket and the trailer’s weight, and widths change with shoe size. An under-counted load can overload an axle or shift in transit. A licensed carrier or DOT compliance consultant should confirm your numbers.

On the prior-generation 210, Deere’s footnote bases weight on a full fuel tank, a 175-lb operator, a 1,951-lb bucket, a 9 ft 7 in arm, standard counterweight and 800 mm shoes. Shoes and the heavy counterweight and boom option alone span 3,092 lb (50,391 to 53,483 lb), before any attachment.

Federal baselines: 102 in, 80,000 lb, axle limits

📜 The Rule: No state may set a width limit other than 102 inches on the National Network, though states may grant special permits for wider loads (23 CFR 658.15, verified October 8, 2026). The Interstate limits are 80,000 lb gross, 20,000 lb per axle and 34,000 lb per tandem, with special permits for nondivisible loads (23 CFR 658.17, verified October 8, 2026). The 210’s listed width of 9 ft 10 in to 10 ft 6 in exceeds 102 in, so permit planning starts at the spec sheet.

Securement threshold: the 10,000-lb line in 49 CFR 393.130

📜 The Rule: Wheeled or tracked machinery weighing 10,000 lb (4,536 kg) or more must be restrained against lateral, forward, rearward and vertical movement with at least four tiedowns, placed as close as practicable to the front and rear or at designed mounting points. Hydraulic shovel accessories must be lowered and secured, and articulated machines restrained (49 CFR 393.130, eCFR current as of October 6, 2026).

The 50 P-Tier’s 10,560-lb canopy weight is over the line; the 35 P-Tier’s 7,760 lb is under it. The rule sets a minimum count, not a method.

What varies by state

🗺️ State Check: Federal size rules set no vehicle height limit; most states set 13 ft 6 in to 14 ft, with lower limits on particular roads (FHWA federal size regulations). Permit thresholds, escort rules and seasonal frost restrictions are state-set. Look up each state on your route.

🧮 Run the Numbers: The dimension and permit checker takes model, generation, shoe width and attachments; the trailer capacity matcher compares operating weight plus attachments and fuel against trailer capacity and tare; the state permit and frost law lookup takes your route’s states.

✅ Do This: Ask your licensed carrier for hauled weight with your attachments, axle distribution, loaded width and height, the securement plan, and permits for each state on the route.

G-Tier or P-Tier: which fits the work

What G-Tier simplifies

A Deere dealer describes G-Tier as the simpler path, where technology is something you add.

What P-Tier integrates

Deere’s 210 P-Tier sheet offers factory grade guidance and SmartGrade 3D options. The nearest published pair differs in size as well as tier:

One letter, two meanings

A letter on the number (190G, 872G) is a generation series, not a tier.

Check the serial plate and spec sheet before you trust a listing

✅ Do This: Ask the seller for the serial number and confirm generation and engine with a Deere dealer; the operator’s manual shows the plate location.
