Buying used: read the model sections. Hauling: go to the legal limits. Other machines: John Deere construction equipment specs.

ℹ️ Safety Note: A published weight is not a hauling weight. A trailer sized from it can overload axles, and an unrestrained tracked machine can shift or fall, crushing anyone nearby. Use a licensed carrier or certified rigger.

450, 550 and 650 P-Tier: small dozer weights

John Deere dozer STD, LGP and SmartGrade configurations changing operating weight
A John Deere dozer’s operating weight can change with its undercarriage, blade, machine-control equipment and other installed options.

A heavy 450 P-Tier (19,035 lb) outweighs a light 550 P-Tier (18,853 lb), so weight alone does not identify a small dozer.

Within their ranges the three spread 1,219, 1,262 and 1,319 lb. Source: Deere small dozers page and fleet sheet DKECEFLT (25-05); spreads computed from range ends. Verified October 9, 2026.

450 P-Tier

Its top weight clears the 10,000 lb securement threshold covered below.

550 and 650 P-Tier

The 650’s track on ground is 92 in on Deere’s listing and 103 in on its detail page; confirm which applies before ground-pressure math.

Why one model has a range

📋 Verified Spec: Deere’s 750L sheet defines base weight as standard equipment, ROPS, full fuel tank and a 175 lb (79 kg) operator, options extra. Applies to 750L, DKALDZR750 (23-09); 450, 550 and 650 sheets not read. Deere 750L spec sheet, verified October 9, 2026.

700, 750, 850 and 850 X-Tier E-Drive weights

The 850 X-Tier E-Drive runs 400 lb heavier than the 850 P-Tier at both ends of Deere’s range.

That is 47,978–51,765 lb against 47,578–51,365 lb, both in XLT, WLT, LGP, SmartGrade and waste-handler setups. Source: Deere mid-size dozers page; compare tables show 51,313 and 51,713 lb defaults, also 400 lb apart. Verified October 9, 2026.

700 and 750 P-Tier

For 700 weights by undercarriage, see John Deere 700L weight by undercarriage. On Deere’s 750L sheet, a 3-shank rear ripper adds 4,314 lb (1,957 kg).

700L, 750L, 850L and P-Tier names

Deere still hosts 700L, 750L and 850L pages with ranges matching the P-Tier figures, but the pages read do not call them one machine. Confirm the generation from the serial plate.

950 and 1050 P-Tier weights by configuration

Deere’s 950 P-Tier tops out 1,450 lb higher on its fleet sheet than on its product page.

The product page lists 65,300–73,700 lb; the fleet sheet lists 65,300–75,150 lb (STD, LGP, SmartGrade, stockpile, waste handler). Source: Deere 950 P-Tier page, 1050 P-Tier page and fleet sheet DKECEFLT (25-05); 75,150 − 73,700 = 1,450 lb. Verified October 9, 2026.

950 P-Tier

The fleet-sheet range spans 9,850 lb, the widest in the line, so configuration matters most here.

1050 P-Tier

Page and fleet sheet agree: 94,000–94,580 lb (42,640–42,900 kg). A 95,400 lb figure in dealer copy is not in the Deere pages read; it matches the earlier 1050K range’s low end.

Waste handler and stockpile setups

Deere gives no separate weight for these in the sources read. Get it from the dealer by serial number.

Why used-listing weights disagree: K, L and P-Tier

Older Deere documents show different ceilings, so check the generation before trusting a listing.

John Deere used-dozer listings may show different weights because model generation and configuration affect the published specification.

Units cause the rest: the 1050’s 42,900 kg is 94,580 lb, 47.29 US short tons or 42.9 metric tonnes. Reading 42.9 as short tons puts it 8,780 lb light.

📜 The Rule: 23 CFR 658.17 sets Interstate limits of 80,000 lb gross, 20,000 lb single axle and 34,000 lb tandem. An axle can be over limit with gross under 80,000 lb. Verified October 9, 2026 against FHWA’s bridge formula pamphlet.

Securement applies to every model here

📜 The Rule: 49 CFR 393.130 covers bulldozers and other tracked equipment of 10,000 lb or more: accessories lowered and secured, and at least four tiedowns restraining forward, rearward, lateral and vertical movement. Verified October 9, 2026.

⚠️ Hazard: A machine not restrained in all four directions can shift or leave the trailer in a hard stop. This article does not cover loading or rigging; a licensed carrier or certified rigger should do both.

CDL and state permits

Class A applies when the combination is rated 26,001 lb or more and the towed unit over 10,000 lb, per FMCSA guidance.

🗺️ State Check: Above 80,000 lb, each state sets its own permit terms:

  • Texas: single-trip permits cover nondivisible loads to 254,300 lb; 80,001–120,000 lb costs $210 ($60 permit, $150 maintenance fee), retrieved October 9, 2026.
  • California: Caltrans lists loads over 80,000 lb on its single-trip page.
  • Ohio: single-trip permit, one move within five days between two points (OAC 5501:2-1).
  • Pennsylvania: over 136,000 lb gross needs a supplemental application (67 Pa. Code § 179.8).

Check your route in the State Permit & Frost Law Lookup.

✅ Do This: Ask the carrier for the loaded scale weight, trailer weight and rating, axle loads, and tiedown count and rating.

Match the trailer to the dozer’s weight

Start from the scale-ticket weight, not the brochure range.

Weigh the finished machine

A 750 at the top of its range (40,040 lb) plus the 4,314 lb ripper is 44,354 lb, leaving 35,646 lb under 80,000 lb for tractor and trailer.

You have Deere’s weight range for each dozer and the limits those weights meet. The next question is the trailer: enter the scale-ticket weight, tractor and trailer weights and axle spacing in the Trailer Capacity Matcher. Before any move, ask a licensed heavy-haul carrier for the loaded weight, permits and tiedown plan. More Deere specs: John Deere construction equipment specs and 700L weight by undercarriage.
