Headline figures, prior vs redesigned

Deere’s 17 P-Tier lists 3,790 lb before its October 2025 redesign and 3,920 lb after; the 26 P-Tier lists 5,508–5,795 lb redesigned. Confirm your generation before sizing a trailer.

Where to go from here

  • Hauling this week: go to the securement section.
  • Buying or renting: read the two spec tables, then the comparison.
  • Decoding a used machine: start with the generation section.

ℹ️ Safety Note: A mini excavator can tip or roll off a ramp or trailer while loading, and a machine that shifts in transit can crush or strike people. This article is general understanding only; a licensed carrier should handle loading, weights and securement.

Prior vs redesigned 17 P-Tier: why the numbers differ

Deere redesigned both machines in October 2025, so each model name now carries two sets of published numbers.

The same “17 P-Tier” name covers two published specification sets: the prior generation and the October 2025 redesign.

What Deere changed in October 2025

Deere’s release lists improved dig forces, fixed-pin mechanical couplers, long-arm options, single or dual auxiliary lines and a standard thumb-ready bracket. Both models also carry a standard battery disconnect.

P-Tier is a feature level, not an emissions rating; the pillar covers Deere’s G-, P- and X-Tier ladder.

Confirm yours before you rely on a number

Get the serial number and ask the dealer which Deere spec sheet covers it. No source we found publishes the serial split between generations.

Deere’s redesigned 7 ft 10 in dig depth is 8 in above the earlier 7 ft 2 in; Deere’s text doesn’t say which arm the headline uses.

Transport dimensions and undercarriage width

The redesigned undercarriage width reads 980 mm in Deere’s table but 990 to 1,295 mm in its feature copy.

26 P-Tier specs: canopy, cab and what changed

The 26 P-Tier’s headline weights changed with the redesign, but Deere’s own page still shows the earlier spec table.

Prior-generation dimensions come from the spec table on Deere.ca’s 26 P-Tier page, which matches Deere sheet ME26PAU on weight, power and transport height. Verified October 9, 2026.

Canopy vs cab weight

Deere’s 6,110 lb is the cab weight; the earlier canopy machine was 5,780 lb. Redesigned figures are 272 lb lower on canopy and 315 lb lower on cab, and Deere’s pages we checked don’t say why.

What’s confirmed on the redesigned machine

Net power and dimensions for the redesigned 26 P-Tier are not confirmed: Deere’s headline repeats the 17 P-Tier’s 18.52 hp, and the table beneath it still matches the earlier machine.

Operating weight vs hauled weight for a mini excavator

Operating weight is Deere’s base-machine figure, not hauled weight.

Attachments beyond the listed bucket aren’t included.

The ton trap at 1.7 and 2.7

Deere’s Canadian pages call the machines 1.7-metric-ton and 2.7-metric-ton. Equipment World writes “1.7-ton” and “2.7-ton” without a unit.

From machine weight to trailer rating

Match machine weight plus attachments to the trailer’s rated capacity; Deere’s dozer operating weights show the same base-figure caveat.

🧮 Run the Numbers: Trailer Capacity Matcher: enter generation, canopy or cab, attachment weights, trailer capacity and tare.

⚠️ Hazard: A machine over the trailer’s rating can overload axles, and one that tips on a ramp can crush the loader. A licensed carrier or certified rigger should confirm weights and load it.

Securing a mini excavator under 10,000 lb: the FMCSA rules

Neither machine reaches the 10,000-lb line where 49 CFR 393.130 applies by its terms.

393.110(d) exempts machinery that must be fastened by special methods from its counts but still requires adequate securement. 393.128 is a third allowed route for lighter machinery and isn’t summarized here. eCFR current as of October 7, 2026; verified October 9, 2026.

The general rules in plain terms

📜 The Rule: Aggregate working load limit of tiedowns must be at least half the cargo’s weight (49 CFR 393.106(d)): 1,960 lb for 3,920 lb, 2,898 lb for 5,795 lb, 3,055 lb for 6,110 lb. These are floors for the machine alone, not a securement plan. eCFR, current October 7, 2026.

Interstate commerce and state differences

🗺️ State Check: Federal cargo securement rules cover commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) in interstate commerce; a CMV is rated 10,001 lb or more, towed unit counted (49 CFR 390.5T). Intrastate rules are state-set; New Jersey applies the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations to intrastate CMVs of 10,001 lb and up. Look up your state’s intrastate CMV weight and Part 393 adoption.

⚠️ Hazard: A shifting load can crush people on the road. Ask a licensed carrier or DOT compliance consultant which rule set they apply and how they will secure your configuration.

The 26 P-Tier adds 9 in of dig depth and, on canopy weight, 1,588 lb; the 17 P-Tier’s configuration isn’t stated, so treat the gap as approximate.

Attachments and hydraulics

Deere’s release says either machine can be factory-equipped with a fixed-pin coupler; its 26 P-Tier page calls it standard, so confirm what’s on the machine you’re buying.

Deere says the redesigned 17 P-Tier meets EPA Final Tier 4 without aftertreatment. Its prior-generation aftertreatment setup isn’t stated on the Deere pages we checked.

Before you move or buy

You have the numbers; the open question is which machine you’re holding. Confirm the generation with the dealer by serial number, then run weight and attachments through the Trailer Capacity Matcher with the trailer’s capacity and tare. Give your carrier the generation, canopy or cab and attachments, and ask which securement rules they apply. Specs across the line are in the John Deere specs pillar.
